I’m optimistic about the Power of Us. We have the power to change the world. And we will again.

The end of apathy is at hand. We are at our best when things seem at their worst. The current story of gloom and doom is a remnant of the age of arrogance, control, greed and self-interest. It is the legacy of media barons, mortgage bankers, Big Three auto execs, Wall Street traders, and Bushwhacked public policies. Perhaps, too, the entire me-first Baby Boomer generation. They are on their way out and something better is on its way in.

Everyone has a voice in our newly connected society. Power has shifted. Democracy may be hard work, but it is a concept worth the effort. A new era of personal engagement and citizenship is at hand. Not only does that make me optimistic, it inspires me.
