Watts Wacker, Futurist
First MatterFirst off I am an optimist. I have been accused of being a naïve. However, humanity has always risen to the occasion, granted often late in the game.
I’ve been writing for over 14 years about the disruptions now coming to pass. We are finally at a point where the pain of where we are is greater than the expectations of the pain of where we’ll end up…. This is when change truly does occur.
These are the times people must look at their beliefs. As a result situational ethics, and any “situational-ness” gets addressed. We’re moving to the conclusion of the ‘abolition of context’ were social norms can now be reestablished. This will take several years to work thru, however now the process can start. Culture is…’what we pay our reverential homage to’.
Culture can not be parsed moment to moment. Take note of how many political issues have moved from polar end points to a more consensus driven orientation, the greening of the world is a good example.
I’m optimistic that the world is seeing visionary leadership for the first time in a long, long time.
I’m also very optimistic on how many new ways there are to create value & wealth. I’m particularly interested in behavioral economics, which suggests that we have a “fairness factor” w/in ourselves. I think we’ll see a new 21’st century approach to capitalism.
Watts' books include:The 500 Year Delta
The Visionary's Handbook
The Deviant's Advantage
