The more pessimistic people get, the more optimistic I get.  Life, it seems to me, flows in cycles, not unending trends.  So too, markets and fortunes do not grow indefinitely to the sky and beyond, any more than they crash and sink below the floor forever.  There is always a turn, many times right at the point of greatest enthusiasm or despair – the darkest hour before dawn sort of thing.  So, the darker it gets, the closer the dawn is and I am looking forward to it. 

We are all learning how to adjust and, perhaps for the first time for some, live within our means, both financial and psychological/emotional.  I am optimistic about those changes, even if their effects or their lessons, are only temporarily learned. 

Long term, there is also another cycle, but in that regard, spanning generations, I am not at all optimistic.  But we won’t be here in any case to have to deal with it.

Unfortunately, your kids and mine will.
