The "glow" of a new Depression
Instead of lines at soup kitchens, there will be even longer lines at Emergency Rooms and medical clinics, according to a Boston Globe report by Drake Bennett.
A catastrophic economic downturn now would feel nothing like the last one.
For instance, the cost of food has come down dramatically since the 1929 Depression.
Instead of food, this new depression will hit us where we now spend
most of our money:
Health care
Child Care
Education
Among the other trends he predicts:
• Old Manufacturing-based cities will become deserted, while cities with "new economy" jobs will become “de-suburbanized.”
• Families will be moving back in together.
• There will be an abundance of free time, which could mean lots of time in front of the flickering light of a TV.
